I believe that life is a precious gift, an adventure to be lived as fully and as joyfully as possible. We come into this world having within us everything we need to achieve our full potential. Most of us are not aware that we possess this innate wisdom until something happens that leads us on a search to find answers to our questions. Maybe we are faced with a problem that we don’t know how to solve, have had a painful loss, or are experiencing difficult feelings such as anxiety or depression. We might have addictions or destructive habits that we can’t handle alone or need to know about resources that are available. It could be that we are having relationship difficulties and want to communicate more effectively. Whatever the issue may be, therapy can be an avenue for helping us find the answers we seek.
In my view, therapy is an interactive process that helps us look at the patterns of thinking, believing, and acting that we have developed for dealing with our lives. These are often out of our awareness and may be non-productive and need to be changed in order for us to have the happy, satisfying lives we want. The therapist brings to this process the fruits of years of training and experience. He or she draws upon this knowledge to assist each person in accessing his or her own deep, intuitive knowing and in achieving his or her goals. Therapy occurs within a dialogue and can be a rewarding and transformative experience for all involved.
